Explaining The Three Different Forms Of Pottery

By Kevin Quaid

Pottery is not considered an art by many. Whenever someone speaks of art, things that come to mind include painting, etc. However, pottery is also a form of art. At first, potters only tools were his hands and clay. Things have changes now. Many new tools have been introduced.

With all those tools available, it still requires a lot of skill to do pottery. Many people can make a bowl out of clay. However, only some would be able to do it to perfection. Only a few would be able to fashion a bowl that is symmetrical.

It takes a great deal of skill to make something out of clay and make it look pleasant to the eyes.

Pottery is not all about making vases and bowls. It is really much more than that. Potters make items such as dishes, lamps, etc. you can use these products to decorate your place and work area. It can be used for daily purposes.

Pottery is basically of three kinds: stoneware, porcelain and earthen ware. The difference lies in the composition of material used and also in the temperature of oven in which the pottery is baked.

Pottery mainly has three types. First one is earthenware. For earthenware, regular clay is employed. The object is baked at moderately low temperatures.

Porcelain is usually weak. It is baked at very low temperature. The clay used is not coarse in nature.

As you must have noticed, the difference primarily lies in the contents and temperature used. This is very small fraction of things you need to learn about pottery, if you want to practice it. There is so much more for you to learn. It is not a very thing to do.
