The Word in Bike Communities: National Motorcycle Rights You Need to Find out

By Darnell Garcia Austria

With spring here and this year's rally season just around the corner, countless bikers head on the roads and byways that run across this glorious nation with motorcycle helmets and back packs. We're all making our itineraries or perhaps dreaming of an awesome riding season filled with reminiscences that will be cherished for a lifetime. There are so many destinations to visit and things to discover that it can be mind boggling to try which direction to ride. The final thing on our brain is having our fun time cut off by something as simple as a traffic stop. When you are riding through this great country, each county has their own regulations pertaining to motorcycles and you have to know that simply because your bike is legal in your county, it may not be in others. Something as simple as handlebar height can get you a ticket. After you have been stopped, the police officer can start probing and a chain of offenses may be discovered in addition. Before leaving, look into the laws and regulations where you'll be driving.

Countrywide

Over the past few years, we have heard about motorcycle-only checkpoints. Now you ask ,, are these stops authorized? Well, the problem here is that while our state representatives try to manage things out, we might be taking one on the chin. We hope, you won't ever have to be slowed at any random stops, particularly a motorcycle-only stop. If this occurs to you, it is always better if you have your paperwork in order and if you are cited for something in checkpoints, please do not sign that you are guilty. Request for a hearing and take time to give it a shot with the judge. This can tie up the court system and at least there is a chance to express yourself and there is a record of the judge's decision. Also, please write your representative and let them know that you feel your rights are being dishonored and you want them to put a stop to this type of harassment. If you're out of state, this may be not possible. If you have been caught up in a motorcycle-only checkpoint stop, we wish to listen to your story.

Virginia

The A.M.A. stated that on Feb . 13, 2012, the Virginia State Senate with one voice endorsed the bill, HB-187, that prohibits motorcycle-only checkpoints and at present the bill heads for Governor Bob McDonnell for consideration. If you support this, please make sure to reach out to the governor and address him that you would like him to approve HB-187 into legislation. You can reach Governor Bob McDonnell at (804) 786-2211. This bill was published mainly because the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia executed a motorcycle-only checkpoint within Rolling Thunder on May 28th. The state of North Carolina recently authorized the same bill into legislation that inhibits motorcycle-only checkpoints.

This may be a true great example of our Motorcycle Rights Organizations taking action. More than a few people specified to the A.M.A concerning the checkpoints and a call to action went out. House delegate, C. Todd Gilbert, presented H-B 187 and with your support, his initiatives along with bike community wins a major battle. If you drive, you have to figure out what is right for you. To ensure that your message is heard, remember to take your time to get involved. Say you decided to make others carry out the fighting for you, ensure that they can be on the same page as you. You may possibly not have the same viewpoint on every issue, but at least your side will be heard.

E16 Ethanol

Furthermore, the A.M.A. reports that the house board handed a bill to demand the E.P.A. to search for autonomous scientific analysis over the effects of 15% ethanol. The bill, H.R.3199, was designed by Rep Jim Sensenbrenner (R- WI.). The E.P.A. only used a single Department of Energy test and harried this product on the market. This bill too requires our support. Not only our motorcycles, but every gasoline engine is at risk of major conditions that will be caused by 15% ethanol. Our engines are not made for this type of gasoline. The E.P.A. should not have given the okay to produce this type of gasoline without having been tested comprehensively. Using this E15 fuel will tamper the manufacturers' warranties and will consequently tear up gasoline engines not designed for this sort of fuel. There is certainly no bike among the list of autos that were made for E15.

Please look at the gasoline pumps. This fuel may perhaps be in your favorite filling station now. Air cooled engines are specially in danger as well as high end and off-road engines. This gasoline will burn too hot and cause engine damage or failure. Go through your owner's guide book when you have any questions with regards to the effect of E15 on your engines. We merely want to say thanks to the readers for giving their support. The next generation will likely have many battles to endure while securing our motorcycle legal rights. We want to give thanks to our service women and men, past and present, that protect and fight for our freedom.
