Stolen Vehicle Tracking

According to the statistics on hand, a motor vehicle is stolen every 5 minutes around Australia. Most of the theft that are occurring recently are in the suburban and rural areas. Much recently, greater and more cars are being stolen in areas that were located on ports or borders. Organized crime are being proven as the primary perpetrator of theft in these areas. The explanation why its occurring near borders is mainly because it is much simpler and easier to transport and slowly move the stolen vehicle.

A stolen vehicle recovery system uses the most recent GPS technology that shows the geographic location of a vehicle, its velocity, and the direction of its movement, with fresh inputs every 20 seconds. The global positioning system (GPS) empowers the stolen vehicle tracking system to flash a message to the owner of a vehicle, in cases where it has been illegally moved without having using its keys. On the basis of this immediate action and location information, it becomes easy to contact the police and recover the vehicle quickly.

Interpol indicates that about 6 million cars are being stolen on 2009 alone. These were combined figures for nearly 160 countries, which provided their own data source of stolen vehicles with that of the Interpol. But the recovered vehicle on the same year is only around 26,000.

The direction of vehicle crime has witnessed a shift of auto thefts from cars to trailers and other heavy vehicles. Vehicle thefts have always been linked to terrorism and organized crime, since the stolen motor vehicles are stolen not just for their own worth but furthermore for abetting other crimes. Another example that the stolen vehicle can be used is to detonate a bomb by parking on the targeted building.

These rising trends of auto thefts gives rise to a question as to why do these types of thefts occur in the first spot and is there not any way to guard your vehicle. Although there are safeguard device available in the market, these proved to be no match for a talented car picker.

However, it is not that you will find not any solid measures to quit the audacity of the auto thieves to lift automobiles from anywhere. People are lead to believe that a simple car alarm can frighten the criminal but it is not so. One such measure is the use of the GPS tracking system which in the event that installed in a vehicle can point out its exact geographic location at any given point of time.

GPS works by transmitting signal to satellite which then maps the place of vehicle with coordinates from the satellite system and transmit it to a receiver. These signals are transmitted on a typical time frame, which renders it easier to target the exact position of the vehicle anytime.

In case the vehicle equipped with a GPS unit is stolen, the police can avail the co-ordinates or the position data of the vehicle from the tracking system software that gets the information on a typical basis. This information can then be synchronised on a map to find the exact area or position of the vehicle. Moreover, the GPS system operates despite the fact that the engine of the vehicle has been turned off, so there is merely no way out. Authorities are advocating a growing number of automobile owners to get automobiles pre-fitted with the GPS units and in case these units are not pre-fitted, to get them installed, in a bid to verify auto-thefts.
