Prepared students can avoid study ruts

By Jarrod Demeza

Being a college student and being in a rut seem to happen simultaneously. It is easy to get caught in the boring program of research, essay and report writing. So much is expected from you each week and there will always be due dates and examinations looming around the corner. There are numerous of simple ways to change your student life to help you escape the dreaded rut and be a better student.

This subject is one which I know all too well as I am in the final year of my diploma and the clichd light at the end of the tunnel is near. Finding yourself in a student rut is the worst! Every so often I lose touch with myself and come to feel as if I'm simply an assignment cyborg; thrusting out essays and studies every week. My brain can't seem to form words when I get the occasional chance to communicate with people plus I recoil when I even look at a pc screen.I have put together a list of three important things that you can do to help you get out of a student rut.

Have some time off - I understand that uni work ought to be the first concern in your life, nonetheless if you are upon the brink of a nervous breakdown then it is definitely important to take a break and do something which you get pleasure from. Go out for a coffee with a pal, go see a new film or even go for a walk and get some sun. Getting a little space from your assessments can end up being a good thing; after working on an assignment for hours at a time you may become too close to your work and it is simple to overlook mistakes. Taking a rest from your work will ultimately make it better because you can attempt it from a fresh viewpoint.

Eat properly - This is an incredibly difficult thing to do when you're a student. When I am at home cramming I might reach the end of the day and find out that over an whole day I've only ingested a can of Pringles and a can of Red Bull...not very good! Whenever you have got an entire day at uni it is typical to see people consuming food items that are speedy and straightforward like muesli bars and biscuits...also not very good. Do some investigation on food that can help with brain performance and aim to integrate them into your eating plan. A few examples of food items that have been confirmed to help with brain strength are: avocados, eggs, dark chocolate (yessss!), coffee, acai berries, grain bread, walnuts and blueberries. Aim to always be organised so that you can take healthy food to uni because it is going to be better on your wallet and much better for your physique. You could be able to focus much better when you are well fuelled.

Stress less - This really is by far the biggest problem that I have. Exam period is forever lurking around the corner and when it arrives I panic. It is not unusual for me to cry in my car prior to going into an examination. The dumb part about that is-I usually do very well. I really don't need to be worrying to begin with. It is critical to not abandon your study until the very last minute-obviously-as starting an exam unprepared is stupid. Exams are normally worth a big portion of your mark and it is advisable to be as organised as you possibly can be. Dedicate set days to set units and work your way through your research and notes. Handle your study break like it is a regular uni day; wake up at a reasonable time, have a shower, get dressed and focus for the entire day like you were at uni. If you sleep in and attempt to study wearing pyjamas then you are putting in a half-hearted attempt from the start. Also, always be prepared from the very first class and take scrupulous notes to make life easier on you when exam time arrives.
