Ask A Top ENT A Question About Your Sinus Problems

By Grace Calhoun

Dr. Murray Grossan, a well-respected Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who has also published a number of books about treating sinusitis, has begun a new initiative to help sinus sufferers. He will personally answer individuals' questions on the Facebook page of his organization called the Grossan Institute.

The only requirement for people to ask questions is that they need to have a Facebook account, and they need to "Like" the Grossan Institute page. At that point you simply post your question to the wall, and it will be answered. One of the links in the resource box below will take you to the Grossan Institute Facebook page.

The author of a number of different sinus treatment related books, Dr. Grossan's work includes the best selling "The Sinus Cure- Seven Simple Steps". This book has been a huge help to many sinus sufferers throughout the years, including the author of this article. In addition, he invented the idea of using pulsating nasal irrigation to clear out nasal passages and sinus cavities.

This involves placing a tip into one nostril through which a high frequency stream of jets of saline solution enter that nostril, flow through the nasal cavities and sinuses, and exit out the other side. The process is repeated on both sides of the nose. These jets of saline solution clean out the nose and stimulate the cilia, which are minute hair-like substances which are important clearing mucus out of the nasal area.

It is the cilia in your nasal passages that keep mucus moving such that proper drainage can occur. Without proper drainage a person will have blockages. Often bacteria accumulate and sinus infections occur.

Since there are many different causes of sinus issues, Dr. Grossan's technique of personally answering the specific questions of individuals is important. The root of your problem could be allergies, or perhaps it is related to an acute immune reaction to fungus. It could also be a case of polyps which sometimes grow in the nasal cavities of some people and which contribute to creating blockages. If you have sinus problems and keep coming down with infections, it is a good idea to have a look at what Dr. Grossan has written on his Facebook page or even ask a question yourself.
