Making Your Family Time Really Count

By Autumn Lockwood

You hear a lot nowadays about "family time" and how essential it is to spend "quality time" with your whole family. Often people seem to have the idea that you need to create a lot of complex plans to be able to get a lot out of the time you spend with your family. Even though the time you spend at events that you invest a lot of effort into planning can be very enjoyable, it's good to remember that spur of the moment visits and casual get-togethers can be a wonderful way to make lasting memories. Even when you don't have time to plan a particular event, you will find that the hints that follow will help you make your family time truly count.

Family-Friendly Car Outings

It was once quite common for families to take road trips together just so that they could go and see relatives, or look at the lovely scenery, or have some other entertaining and inexpensive adventure. In the present busy world, this family-friendly habit has become more uncommon. Relive the past by simply taking a little trip together with your family, perhaps once a month or even once a week. You can strategy an event in advance, or just get in the car and see where you end up. Neighborhood parks, flea markets, conventions and community events, and museums are all fascinating destinations, most of which are completely free. Pack up a picnic meal in a cooler and take off for a day of great family fun. Make sure you pack your camera as well to record the splendid sights you see, and also snap some shots of your family having fun. And then when you get home you can frame a few of these snapshots in vintage picture frames.

Family Game Night

Playing games together as a family is a free activity that everyone will enjoy. In fact, some families schedule a weekly game night, allowing a different member of the family to select the game that will be played each different week. You can even throw together a few cost-effective finger foods, and maybe make some nice hot cocoa or some cold lemonade, and then simply have fun with your time spent together with your family. Make sure to select games that everybody can play, so you don't leave anybody out. And if your children are several different ages, you can plan on playing two different games, one for all the "big kids", and game for the little ones.

Appreciate the Outdoors Together

You can spend excellent time with your loved ones, and exercise as well when you enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through the park, an afternoon of rock hunting, or maybe even bird watching in your very own backyard can be very fun. Take your camera along with you so that you can take some great nature shots or pictures of your loved ones spending time together, so you can place a few in natural wood picture frames when you get home. Your time spent together will be great, without even having to spend a lot of precious time on planning or wasting money.

It really doesn't take much money or planning to make the time with your family a time that really counts, and that your entire family will always treasure.
