Discovering The Right Pool League

By Layla Crawford

Pocket billiards is an truly a staggeringly competitive sport that takes time and concentration to become a master of. It is best not to start off playing making the preposterous assumption that the challenge of the game will be an easy one... most often it will not be. One of the greatest hurdles most amateur billiard players will face is finding the correct skilled competition that will help ensure they advance quickly in their skill level, instead of rusting away at the amateur level.

Only laying the challenge of a game against a bunch of novice pool players all the time is an excellent way to guarantee that you yourself also remain a newbie. One of the most significant things even a brand new billiard shooter could do is to make sure they have new and challenging players they can compete against and that they can acquire lessons or tips from, and the best ways to do that is, in fact, to join a league.

Nearly every local bar with more than three pool tables will, of course, have some form of frequent and organized competition at the pool and billiard table. The new player's job is to either ask other people in the vicinity and find out when the more experienced players arrive by word-of-mouth, or by simply giving your favorite search engine a search. A good choice of keywords for these uses would be "pool league" combined with your city and state.

Often you will be genuinely surprised at how many billiard leagues you can have in one tiny town. Another, perhaps surprising, place to discover where organized games of billiards are occurring would, in fact, be your regional pool and billiard supply. They may not offer anywhere to play a game of pool within their store, but what they do have are good connections for information. Even if you're not currently even remotely intrigued with the idea of buying any billiard products, this can be a marvelous place to begin your journey to the big leagues, and believe you me, they are used to it!

Whenever you do find the pocket billiard league you've been searching for, it is important to make sure to make friends and socialize. Often the best advice on gaming technique comes after the actual game, and the only way the competition is going to offer that help you need is if they like you. Offer to purchase just a few pints of beers, or perhaps invite a few of the more skilled players out to grab a bite to eat before the next game. Individual players will always be the most useful resource you have at improving your pool skills.
