Marriage, Teenagers and Your Texas Auto Insurance: When To Switch to Save Money

By Amy Kitchel

When you get married you will likely have more than one vehicle. Texas auto insurance companies offer great discounts for policies with multiple cars and for policyholders who are looking to combine their policies. Make sure that you shop around and get all the information you need from different companies to make sure you are saving the most.

Also look into switching policies if you get divorced. Getting a divorce means a new address, separate cars, fewer cars and changing names. These all provide reason and opportunity to find a new Texas auto

If you have a child who turns 16 and starts to drive you should shop around and switch your Texas auto insurance. You will have to increase your insurance in one way or another with a teenage driver, make sure you are doing it in a way that is responsible to your wallet as well as the new driver in your house.

By adding a teenage driver to your Texas auto insurance policy you open yourself up to qualify for discounts- insurance companies have discounts available for things like good grades and taking defensive driving classes. Also, adding a teenaged driver to your policy can help you to qualify for a multi-car or a multi-policy discount.

Be sure to compare rates and options between adding a teenage driver to your policy and getting them their own policy. Having separate policies can help you qualify for a multi-policy discount.

Whenever you experience a major life change it is a good time to consider switching your Texas auto insurance policy. Be sure to look into a policy update around once per year even if you don't experience one of these major life events, this way you can be sure that you are up to date, fully covered and probably can save a few dollars.
