There slacks though which are recommended to be hand washed. This is because even the gentle cycle the washing machine provides can still harm the delicate fibers of their fabrics. Wool dress pants are one of the examples for these. Prepare a basin of cold water and mix in it a tablespoon of mild detergent. Stir the elements well. Allow your slacks to stay soaked on your soapy solution for five minutes. Gently rub them with your hands to remove the dirt and stain. Use cool water for the rinse. Get a towel for drying your wool slacks. The dry towel will absorb the water out of the slacks. Never crumple or twist the slacks. This will stretch the slacks and have them deformed.

There are two different styles in letting slacks for men dry. Those made of cotton and linen must always be hung dry. Those made of wool and cashmere must be laid on the floor to dry. Ensure that the floor is clean and that the slacks are turned inside out. Slacks made of silk, polyester and rayon may be hung or laid on the floor to dry.

Slacks may be ironed. Cotton and silk slacks must be pressed using a steam iron. Lay them flat on a full-sized ironing board so that you can press all of its parts easily. With the use of a sprinkler, you can moisten wrinkled areas before you iron them.

Set the heat of the iron to the specifications found in the inside tags of most men's dress pants.
