The Downsides Of Modern Society

By Walter Q. Xavier

Living in today's world may seem easy and convenient. But the truth is that hidden in the easy way in which we travel, live, and work are many dangers that can threaten to shorten our life if we aren't careful. The paradox is that the very inventions that make our lives easier may be doing us more harm than good in some cases.

Naturally, you can't eat healthy all of the time. That would be impractical. You need to have a cheating day once in a while, to sit in front of the TV with your favorite ice cream and potato chips. But to eat that way every day would be suicide. That's why it's important to keep a close watch on the food you eat, so you don't slip into a comfortable lifestyle that may shorten your life.

Another danger of modern society is the lack of exercise we all seem to suffer from. Many times, the only exercise we get is when we get up to get some more ice cream out of the freezer when the commercials come on. In order to combat this, make sure to do a little bit of exercise on a regular basis. This can do wonders for your health.

TV is also another killer. Although it is an amazingly useful source of information, TV can lull us into being mindless slaves of advertisers, buying things we don't really need without much thought. To increase your brain activity, consider turning off the TV and read a book.

Many people are unaware of how many chemicals there are in our modern water supply. While these chemicals were designed to keep us healthy, they may be having some unintended side effects. Low sperm count in men is one such effect that is currently being investigated. Consider getting a water filter, or better yet, drinking bottled water instead.

Living in modern society is certainly easier than swing a club at tigers all day long, it does have its drawbacks. We can be tricked into a false sense of security, and this is dangerous. But with a few simple lifestyle changes, we can be much healthier, and live much longer.
