Teenage Acne

Nearly everyone knows what a serious case of acne looks like, and there are a variety of types. If you are affected by acne then it would be to your advantage to know it's type and if anything can be done to prevent it.

Acne infections can occur:

- as oil and dead skin combine and cause an accumulation at the opening of a hair follicle, then you'll get a whitehead;

- when dirt has collected in an open pore, and the oils that have gathered beneath that dirt have hardened, then you have a blackhead;

- if a hair follicle becomes infected or inflamed produces a spot that is red or swollen, then you have a pimple;

- as a hair follicle becomes infected or inflamed deep within the hair follicle and shows a thick red lump beneath the surface of your skin, then you'll get a cyst.

What's significant about a pore and a hair follicle is that a pore is where the body releases harmful substances by way of sweat glands. A hair follicle is below the skin and grows hair through the surface of the skin; usually up to about 1/2 inch. Hair is one of the ways our body protects us; it alerts us to foreign objects or insects touching our face or body.

What Are the Causes Of Acne?

There are innumerable causes of acne. Teenage acne infection may be caused by over active male hormones called androgens. During puberty, both girls and guys may experience this increase which makes the oil glands to expand and produce more oil.

An second cause could be genetic. If one or both of your parents had teenage acne then guys more than girls, will probably inherit teenage acne. Another way to develop acne is through specific prescription drugs and medications with acne as a potential side effect.

A common cause of acne is the skin care products that contain oil. When a product has oil molecules that don't completely dissolve, they clog pores and don't permit dead skin cells to naturally lift off. In this instance, without regular, proper cleansing, the results are acne.
