There Are Many Paths To Self Improvement

By Callie Frazier

Those who want to better their lives will find no shortage of self improvement resources. But, positive change, although facilitated by the help of instructors or books, comes from within. The people who better their lives are those who make the effort to change their lives.

An effective step towards making one's life better is to examine any thoughts of disappointment, frustration, or even shame. These thoughts serve only one purpose, to hold one back, and cause misery. Spend time writing down events that caused disappointment, frustration, and shame, and put them in the open.

When one writes in a journal one can examine his feelings and determine how his feelings have affected his thoughts. Actions come from thoughts, and thoughts come from feelings, so it is important to examine one's feelings. When negative feelings arise, contain them, in order that one's thoughts remain positive.

Some people are able to better their lives with the help of an instructor or coach trained in life betterment. Others believe that reading a book on how to better one's life is the best way to improve one's life. The foundation of change however, is commitment, one has to commit to being a better person, if change is to take place.

For instance, negative thinking can become a habit, and habits can only be broken through effort. Here is an effective way to break the negative thinking habit. Wear a rubber band around the wrist and when a negative thought enters the mind, snap the rubber band.

The pain from the snap reminds one to avoid negative thinking. The rubber band method is one path to self improvement, and is relatively easy to adopt. People who want to better their lives can seek the help of an instructor or a book, but they must remember that change occurs only with effort.
