Fashion Do's and Don'ts for Corporate Clothing

By John Lake

Letting your inner style come thru at work isn't a simple move to make. For the fashion aware, it can be hard to throw together an outfit that's both stylish and acceptable. Corporate clothing has had a name for being boring and traditional "not at all fashion forward. Nonetheless there are some ways you can smarten up an outfit without violating your company's dress code. Here are 1 or 2 fashion guidelines to help remain dashingly dressed in the workplace:

Do keep things easy.

Over accessorizing can kill the company feel of any outfit. Leave your scarves and fancy necklaces at home. Take Coco Chanel's advice: before going out, take five accessories off. This is going out on a limb and assuming that you suffer from major accessory overkill, but you get the picture.

Don't get stuck with neutrals.

Neutrals are naturally the 1st choice for office wear, but it can get a bit uninteresting. Add a pop of colour to your outfit through bright-colored heels. Printed polo shirts are also a smart idea, as long as you make sure that the print isn't too occupied. This adds a bit of interest to the whole look, keeping it from being boring.

Do wear a dress to work.

Most people who work in an office might stay clear of dresses, but there is a method to wear them without looking too casual. Avoid going for party dresses, or anything too short. Make sure that the neckline is appropriate also. Steer clear of balloon skirts and casual styles that will give off the incorrect vibe. Sheath dresses are a great option for work, as they're formal enough to wear in an office. If you choose a sleeveless dress, make sure you wear a blazer over it.

Don't be frightened to experiment.

Plain and printed polo shirts can grow old after a time, particularly if you have been wearing them regularly after a while. Embroidered polo shirts can work as well , but you have to balance it out with the rest of your outfit. Select the colour of the shirt wisely, and stick to neutral colors. The embroidery on the piece is enough to add interest to the whole outfit. Picking a shirt in a bright color might be too much. Also, keep the embroidery easy. The design should be concentrated in 1 piece of the polo shirt; it should not be all over the fabric. You can wear these with plain colored pencil skirts or straight cut slacks.
