The versatility of Majorca

By Samantha Brody

Majorca has been an extremely popular holiday destination for British people for a long time now. Because it only takes a short flight from the UK to experience high temperatures and beautiful beaches, it makes the experience much more enjoyable and comfortable. Over the last few years a lot of people have started to look elsewhere because noisy resorts such as Palma Nova and Magaluf have given the Majorca a bad name. A lot of young Brits travel to these resorts only to drink away the nights and sleep through the day. Majorca is a very large island though and so it is big enough to cater to both the clubbers and those looking for a much more relaxing holiday.

Bunyola has hardly been developed at all and still maintains its original charm. Instead of clubs and bars, Bunyola is full of traditional shops and other buildings with people going about their lives just as they did before the tourists flocked in. There is accommodation in Bunyola and the few tourists who do know about Bunyola go there to enjoy the same relaxing atmosphere that the locals do every day.

Cala Blava is another small resort which hasn't seen much development. It has excellent links to the larger resorts but is very secluded and peaceful. For a simple relaxing holiday with some good food and quite nights, Cala Blava is ideal and with the bigger resorts in close proximity it is easy enough to travel to them by car or bus and spend the day there if you wish.

Cala Mesquida is a popular resort but with people who are looking spend their time on the beach or in the sea rather than in the bars and clubs. The beach in Cala Mesquida which is one of the islands most beautiful has strong winds most of the time making it perfect for surfing and wind surfing. Just like Cala Blava it also has good transport links to the more lively resorts.

Majorca is still as beautiful as it has always been and although certain parts are not particularly family friendly any more, the island is big enough for couple and families to enjoy as they always have. One of the best things about Majorca is its versatility; there are resorts like Magaluf for the clubbers and other resorts which are far more relaxing.
