Losing Weight The Healthy Way

By Andy Garcia

Lots of people feel uncomfortable when they hear the words "weight loss". The reason for this is most often a sense of failure because they have tried various weight loss programs previously without success. A common reason they don't lose weight is the sheer volume of tips and advice available makes it consuming for them to take in. Some of these advice are contradictory as different businesses promote their weight loss product as superior over their competition, which they imply is not as effective, so just who do you believe?

Sticking to a long term program is one of the key things for weight loss. A lot of men and women think that they can simply go on some sort of crash diet for a couple of weeks and lose all of their weight. A rapid weight loss plan will not result in you losing weight by shedding fat but rather of water. For losing weight (coming from fat), a plan that's long term is the most effective bet. Diets that are super rigid tend to not work because they are hard to stick to, maybe because of the foods you have to ingest. There is the danger of becoming bored with a strict diet after a while and you may be tempted to leave off the plan and ingest stuff you're not supposed to, possibly in generous servings! You'll then start to have misgivings about having started the weight loss plan in the first place and wonder if you can stick it out. At this point, lots of people will fall by the wayside and quit or compromise the plan and not lose a great deal of weight.

There's a simple thing that's said when it comes to getting rid of the weight: burn more calories than you take in. Whilst this is true, it can be extremely time consuming to sit there and count all of the calories you've taken in each day. In addition to this, calories can vary more or less: 100 calories from dark chocolate are different to 100 calories from a piece of fruit. Eating foods that are nutritionally heavy is vital, and these foods are mainly natural and not processed, so that's things like vegetables, fish, chicken, whole grains and fruits. Don't stress yourself about avoiding fat completely since you can eat so called healthy fats that are found in particular nuts and avocado pears, for example. Losing weight doesn't mean that you have to pick extremely boring and unflavored foods. You need to be able to enjoy it, and it has to look appetizing. Salmon, green vegetables and salads, fresh fruits etc are examples of nourishing foods that both look and taste delicious.

Exercise is also very crucial when it comes to losing weight. You cannot miss it out if you desire to do well with your weight loss. Exercise has the effect of raising your metabolism (burns off calories faster) and will also develop strong muscles. Building up muscle = more muscle which means your body will burn up more calories while at rest. Make sure you choose a form of exercise that suits you and is something you love doing. That way you're more likely to exercise every day and not make excuses to get out of it.

Lastly, by way of encouragement, weight loss is beyond your reach. Just adopt a plan that you are able to stick with for the long run and check yourself mentally.
