Explanations For Why People Go Through Cosmetic Surgery

By Michael Iostos

Vanity causes people to be embarrassed sometimes about the way they look. However, vanity does not play into why survivors of injuries, accidents, and illnesses feel unhappy about their appearances. Overcoming pain and embarrassment about their altered bodies may be achieved by choosing cosmetic surgery.

Such patients often include breast cancer patients. These individuals sometimes have to go through mastectomy procedures, during which one of their breasts is removed, leaving a noticeable change in their bodies. These patients often choose reconstruction by utilizing breast implants. Afterward, they look similar to how they did before they had the mastectomy.

Likewise, men who have lost jaws or tongues to mouth cancer also have operations done to rebuild their faces. They can have prosthetic tongues put in their mouths. They can also have jaw implants to restore their jaw line.

Like cancer treatment alterations, traumatic injuries also drastically may alter a person's body. Being in a car accident might lead to a person's losing an arm or a leg. This patient might require surgical procedures to graft skin over the limb's end and to make it possible to fit that person with a prosthesis. The surgeon makes it possible for the survivor to walk or use his or her arms again.

Other accidents like fires also leave dramatic injuries to victims. Victims of fires often have significant damage to their bodies. To heal their burned tissue, doctors are able to graft skin from donors or from the patient's unaffected areas of their bodies to the affected tissues. The healthy skin promotes healing and the victim can recover and even regain their former appearance.

Medicine today makes it possible for survivors of traumatic events and illnesses to overcome the damage done to their appearances. They often choose cosmetic surgery as a means to regain a sense of normality and to make them appear as how they were before they became sick or involved in the accident. With this, they benefit from the scientific advancements of modern medicine. They are able to feel better about themselves and find relief from pain.
