Are you suffering from bleeding gums? Bleeding gums is the first sign that you will notice when you have gum infection. Sometimes, gingivitis is the kind of disease where this condition is very apparent. Periodontal disease is an infection caused by bacteria present in the tissues of the gums that may result to tooth loss if left untreated.

The individual is to be blamed for problems such as this. The dilemma will start when the person is not vigilant with oral hygiene practices. Oral hygiene and proper dental care must start from childhood to avoid the occurrence of any gum disease as well as the condition of bleeding gums. Plaque is a layer of bacteria which cause build-up on the teeth over time. This gradually forms on the teeth and is speeded up when sweet drinks and foods are not properly removed from the teeth after brushing. This will encourage the growth of plaque which will develop into bleeding gums.

When you brush and floss your teeth regularly especially every after meals, you can stop plaque from forming on the teeth and prevent bleeding gums. This kind of condition is also very common for pregnant women. A hormone change during pregnancy makes the supporting and connective tissues in the gums softer and weaker. Plus, it increases the flow of blood which makes bleeding more likely particularly in the gum area.

There are many people who are more susceptible to bleeding gums. Some factors such as stress, poor diet, and cigarette smoking trigger bleeding gums, as well as crooked or rough teeth. Certain medications that have side effects and uncontrolled diabetes will also cause bleeding gums. Aside from that, bleeding gums are also caused by hemophilia, scurvy or deficiency in vitamin C, and leukaemia, which are accompanied by other signs and symptoms of a disease.

In the later and advanced phase of the disease, you may loss teeth. At the worst stage of gum disease, the gums will develop abscesses which cause the teeth to fall out. And, the best thing to do to treat it is to practice good oral hygiene. This is usually done by brushing your teeth properly with the use of fluoride toothpaste. But when the act of brushing the teeth makes your gums bleed, you may be brushing too vigorously. To avoid this, you must spend two minutes gentle and circular brushing to remove the plaque. By doing this, you may accomplished not only on the surface of the teeth but also in-between them. After brushing, you can use dental tape or floss to remove the hidden particles of food stuck in crevices of the teeth. Some people use mouthwash to refresh the breath and to effectively dislodge any food particles that are still trapped in the teeth.
