YMCA Camps

By Martin Paul

In the city I grew up in, YMCA camps are really very popular. You see, parents around town doesn't have a lot of cash to send their kids away to costly forests camps, but on top of that they want to provide their kids the opportunity to get fit and have fun with the summer the way all kids prefer - by playing around, swimming, playing sports, and basically goofing off. YMCA camp gave us the chance to do just that. Also see these Great Supply of Church Bulletins that can be helpful for the camp.

The first year I actually joined YMCA camp, I was entering 5th grade and fearing the journey. I didn't want to have to be away from home every day. I truly liked to read, and want to use my summer vacation curled up with a book. Then again, my parents would like me to get in shape, so they sent me away to the day camp.

YMCA camps wasn't much of a habit in my family. My older sister had truly liked going to girl scout camp herself, and my big brother had been a boy scout.

The reason why I went to YMCA camp was because it was in close proximity and convenient, and did not need me to sleep away. I would spend the day there and then my parents would pick me up.

Although I might have preferred a more academic summer camp in that age, I found myself loving YMCA summer camps pretty much. I took to the lake just like a duck, and was instantly made part of the swimming group.

Most of the other children had more knowledge than I did, but it did not take me all that long to catch up with them, and also surpass their ability. In the end of the summer, I was one of the best swimmers in the whole place.

Following that, I joined YMCA camps nearly every single year. I really loved to swim, and they let me spend time there in the pool. Also, I got to do some crafts and arts. I even got to read for an hour here and there, which has always been certainly my favorite pastime.

The camp kept me out of my mom's hair, and gave me a chance to exercise - something which I really would not did if had not been in that summer camp. Now that I'm parenting my own children, I think I will send them back to the same summer camp I used to visit.
