Small Business Administration: A One-Stop Resource

By Norbert Higensen

Big business and Corporate America seem to continue to grow and gain market monopolies across the country, but small businesses are popping up all over the map as more Americans continue to reach for the American Dream.

First, it is important that you have a venue that is going to work well for your meeting. You should have enough room for everyone that is going to be attending your meeting and you want to be sure that everyone has the accommodations that they will need to be comfortable.

Second-Pay attention to everything! That means everything that you hear or read can be used as evidence if used in the right light.

Make sure that you understand what everyone wants and what everyone expects to ensure your meeting will go smoothly.

There are more options than you think when it comes to funding your small business. The SBA offers a variety of loan and grant options. Depending on your niche, you may qualify for more than one type of funding.

Fifth-Take things from different perspectives. Great lawyers are able to put themselves in other's shoes and see things from their point of view. For instance you may want to put yourself in the shoes of an outsider to get a less biased opinion or to look at evidence in a different way.

After you have finalized your meeting, you may want to plan to stay in Utah before the meeting or even after the meeting. If you think that preparations for the meeting are going to be stressful you may want to plan the vacation portion of your meeting trip for after your meeting.

Seventh-Be clear and don't go in circles. The more wordy and expressive you get the more lost the audience will get. It is much better to have a short and clear argument that leaves an impression.

To help new owners circumnavigate the larger hurdles, the SBA provides a wealth of videos, tools, and online resources. This training material gives you the insight you need to prepare and be ready for whatever may happen.

Ninth-Use your common sense. If something sounds funny then it should be questioned out loud. Using your instincts is important as well. If you feel like something is out of place or doesn't seem right then you should take it apart and look at it again.

Utilizing the resources provided by the Small Business Administration will not eliminate every single hiccup and hurdle that you will encounter. Owning and managing a small business still comes with its bumps and bruises but the knowledge provided, when implemented, can help you avoid major breaks or burns that can cripple a small start-up.

Look through the many different options that you have no matter what season you are enjoying in Utah. Be sure that you take advantage of the time that you have to enjoy in Utah while you are there for your meeting.
