Why Internal Frame Backpacks?

By Trey Taylor

Are you a backpacker? Which kind of backpacks do you like? For a serious backpacker, it is extremely important to choose which type of backpacks they will carry along their trip. Even though frameless backpack and the external frame backpack are still loved by some people, yet in the market, the internal frame backpacks have occupied the most sales for its constant popularity. Why are the internal framed packs so welcomed? The reasons may be self-evident for the backpackers.

Internal frame packs are designed with a lightweight interior frame (rods and sticks) to support the structure of the pack and also provide adequate room for all the essentials. Often, backpacks with this feature are made with the ultralight materials such as aluminum to minimize its weight. Unlike backpacks with external frames, the rods are hidden out of the view and there is nothing on the outside of the bag. All materials need to be secured within the bag. If the backpack is packed properly, there will not be anything moving during the trip, and it is convenient and comfortable to carry it on your back for a long distance. The sections that are made up the frame are flexible to adjust the contours of the users' back.

Besides the lightweight frames, a series of strips are designed inside to support the internal frame packs to enhance performance. Proper distribution of weight is another contribution of these strips.

To maximize stability and balance, internal packs are usually designed with hip belt, waist belt and padded shoulder straps. These parts play roles in weight distribution as well. What's more, sufficient compartments provide enough space for carrying elements separately, which ensures your bags neat and ordered. Internal frame packs is a perfect choice for various outdoor activities with different pack types. For instance, you may choose a mountaineering pack for mountain climbing, hiking, and an expedition bag for camping or skiing.

Frameless packs are often easily designed with few pockets and compartments, that means you have no separate sections for your specific items or accessories but to cram all your stuff into one or several parts. Although it costs you less time to pack the belongings inside, yet it will be extremely time consuming and inconvenient for you to take some specific things off. The external frame packs have the disadvantage of exterior frames and over weight, which will hinder the users to move freely in their moving and endure more burdens. Taking these factors into account, the internal frame backpack overcome all the shortcoming of the above two bags. It assigns more compartments and pockets for different items, and installs the interior frame to support the structure of the bag, and lessens the possible weight for users. A user friendly backpack will undoubtedly be welcomed.

Internal frame backpacks are ideal options for backpacking or for a long hike, because it cannot snag the branches and undergrowth easily through terrain. Since everything is safely packed within the bag, nothing can snag or be exposed when you are traveling. The result is that all the contents of the backpack are as fresh and ready to use as when they were placed into the bag. This is one reason that it has surpassed the other backpacks in popularity, and will probably continue to become more popular in the years following.
