Find Your Blogging Niche

By Chaz Montgomery

There are a million ways to be successful on the internet. One way is through niche site creation and affiliate marketing. A niche site is a site that is created for a specific purpose. Your domain name also needs to be as close to your niche keyword as possible. This will help you tell your audience what your site is about and help search engines understand how relevant your site is to certain searches. I have created two niche sites that rank on the first page of Google primarily because they have the keyword in the URL.

Step One: Pick four things that help define a person. I'm going to use a lifestyle, a job type, an area of the world, and a TV show. It's better if you know about these different things or are passionate about them. It makes writing easier.

Step Two: Figure out how all your interest fit together. For me, I live in Idaho. I Crossfit. I'm a mechanic and watch The Walking Dead. It is just a way to combine your likes, your habits, your talents, and your attitude to find a type of niche that you might be excited about.

Step Three: Let's see if there is an audience for your possible niche and determine the competition. Here, I will normally go to Google Adwords so I could use the keyword tools link. Keyword tools allows you to see how often people search for keywords in your niche and see how many people compete for that keyword. It is awesome.

Step Four: After doing the research in Google Keywords, you'll be able to know how many people search for which terms in your niche. You'll want to pick the keywords with the lowest competition and then see if there is a URL that you can use. For my example, the URL might be mechaniccrossfitter.com or IdahoWalkingDead.com. This will help you with SEO after your website is created and tells the audience, up front, what the site is about.

For those just beginning, take a look at Bluehost, it is the most affordable service that still offers great service. Personally, I use Inmotionhosting.com. I have quite a few sites and wanted to manage them on one account. I found that InMotion Hosting is the best for bloggers with multiple sites, and their customer service is always spot on.For more detailed instructions on how to find the perfect URL with links to the keyword tool and other tools, check out my blog article that shows you how to find your food blog niche.
