Teaching Kids About Natural Energy

By Morgan Lee

Protecting the environment is an important issue. It's not just important for adults, it's an issue that should be at be taught to children too. It's important that remember the importance of finding and using natural energy sources to create the power we need for every day activities. It should ultimately be the common thing to do for the whole world.

Children should be learning about conservation in general. They should be learning to conserve all natural resources, animals and even the know the importance of good air quality. It;s important that these things are learnt at an early age and then implemented throughout their lives.

A common source of renewable power is the sun. The solar power is used in residential homes to provide heat and electricity. So, it's much easier for children to relate to this source. Once you have explained the basics to the kids, it's easy to find kits and activities that they can do to demonstrate the use of solar power, this includes things such as buying solar powered batteries and toys.

In areas that are ordinarily very windy, wind power is a good, clean renewable option. It is generated by using the wind turn turbines or propellers that ultimately get the generator going, which in turn provided power. This make a great science project and children enjoy seeing how this works.

Water conservation is high on the list of issues pertaining to protecting the environment. It is also a source that can be used to generate hydro-electricity, another clean form of power. It is created by using the force of the water to create electricity. Many places with large dams also have a hydro plant. This is an enormous task and taking children here to experience how the process works will have them appreciating the need to conserve water more.

This information, while fun can also be a little overwhelming for the younger children; for them, you could get them started by implementing environmentally friendly initiatives at home. For example, using water sparingly, taking unused cell phone charger out the socket and finding ways to reuse plastic bottles and the like, in the home. This way, they know that they are doing their bit too.

Natural energy is a clean, green idea that is always considered when discussing environmental. Children should grow up knowing and understanding the importance of incorporating environmentally friendly choices into their lifestyles. This can't just be taught at school, it is an issues that should be implemented at home as well. After all, it is the their investment that they are ultimately protecting.
