Renewing The Call To Donate To Africa

By Doris Rivas

There is a proverb that alludes to the fact all humanity is connected in a continuous circle. The successes of one are the successes of all. And human kind is only as strong as the weakest link. When it comes to the human family in Africa there is a weakness of poverty that is so great it seeks to threaten the circle as a whole. That is why it is still a necessity to donate to Africa.

It is disheartening that there are those who believe the human family in Africa is cursed, evil, and are destined to be destroyed. There are those that believe it is a waste of time and money to be involved in helping them.

The world has a proven track record of global neighbors helping others when they were in need. The Native Americans assisted Europeans when they settled in the Americas. The world came to the aid of her Jewish neighbors during the horrors of the holocaust. No one knows how the pendulum of need will swing in the world. But it is a relief to know that overall, the support of others in the world will be there.

Of the fifty three African countries that are struggling, there is a shortlist of causes. Lack of safe drinking water is at the top of the list. When a person gets thirsty enough they have no other option than drinking the water that is available to them. In countries like Chad, Sierra Leone, and Somalia clean water is scarce while the plenteous water can be contaminated with bacteria, fungi, and other organisms that can develop into sicknesses and eventually death.

Malnutrition is also on the list. Substandard soil conditions, poor growing climate, and civil wars have greatly reduced the ability to grow crops that can satisfy food needs. Diarrhea, acute respiratory infections, and malaria are included on the list of opportunities.

The rate of death is high for the precious children because of these concerns. Innocent little children spend agonizing years trying to survive only to die at a very early age. There is very little their parents can do.

The smallest of donations can be the provider of the greatest amount of good. Before making donations it is essential the charities are investigated to confirm their reputation. There are scams looking for innocent citizens to prey on. There are good charitable organizations that focus on specific goals like providing clean water, reducing the spread of malaria, and providing vaccinations. Other organizations create a more family type connection. They manage the fostering of children. Letters and pictures can be shared with the sponsor. This provides a sense of accomplishment and pride being connected to a child that will now grow into a healthy adult.

There is no doubt that Africa has great wealth. Through the pumping of oil and mining of diamonds countless individuals have accumulated great wealth. Yet, the average citizen on the African continent is faced with constant struggles just to survive. With this truth the mission to donate to Africa will continue.
