You need to know who will be working on your project, but if you were selective about your general contractor you should be able to trust their choices.

You will need a finishing contractor and if you general contractor has not planned for that you may want to take that upon yourself because the finishing contractor can really help with skirting boards installation and other finishing touches. You should discuss this with your general contractor before you go out and do it yourself.

You may also consider looking at your options in the local phonebook or contacting some other general contractors you know to see who they might recommend for finishing work.

Understanding who each of your candidates are and what they bring to the table is your next step. Meeting with each of them is the best way to find out more about them. You want each of them to actually tour your project. A face to face meeting is always the best way to go because you'll learn the most about each candidate that way.

During your face to face interview you will need to ask them some questions and you will want to hear their suggestions too. You may be surprised by want they recommend. Usually a place will be nearly done, but a good finishing contractor should be able to easily spot anything that's out of place or missing because details are their job.
