Helping Our Planet As Well As Living Green Isn't As Tough As You Might Think

By Jim Timothys

Some folks fear that it will take excessive effort to make their lifestyle more green. Nonetheless, it is really not that hard and just making modest changes can help the environment by lowering your carbon footprint.

A good way to live greener is to be sure that you disconnect all electric appliances when you're not using them. Even when you switch something off, it still uses small amounts of power and thus energy. Even though you may find it tough, eventually you will be able to do it without thinking and in the process save yourself a good deal of money.

When you go to the food market and use bags to carry the things you purchased, keep them once they have been taken out. When you visit the store for more shopping, take those bags with you. This way you will be reducing the amount of bags that you use monthly which in turn will not only save you money (especially if you have to buy the bags every time) but will also mean less trash is being generated that could potentially contribute to pollution. Bear in mind that you can easily use these bags to transport other items from place to place.

You can further lower your carbon footprint by driving less. Although there will be times when you have to drive to your office or other places, it's a great idea to carpool with others or walk whenever you can. Using your car only once in awhile can save you a a considerable amount of money and also decrease pollution. This is one area where you can absolutely save a lot of the money you spend on spiraling gas prices.

Although there are many ways to decrease pollution, one thing that instantly comes to my mind is the water bottles that are bought in large quantities all over the world. While the water itself may be healthier, these water bottles made out of plastic are ordinarily trashed after just one use. It's perfectly okay; use bottled water if it's really necessary. It's a great idea, however, to use the bottles again as much as possible. You are probably wondering how. Well, with a small investment, you can get a pretty good water filter which you can use to fill the plastic bottles and then you can put them in the icebox. Again, similar to the other examples previously, this will cut down your impact on the environment due to less potential pollution and will also save you money.

By combining your efforts in making some of these smaller changes, you can make a huge difference in the effect on our environment and your pocket. In answer to the original question, yes, green living can be easy if you're ready to take small steps.
