Peacefulness For Humankind

By Emmanuel Van Der Meulen

The family tree of humankind reveals these interesting dynamics: The family trees evolved as people from different families had children together. The localized branches were mainly of the same nation.

With each foreign settling the area's localised branches were affected. More recently, during the last few decades, due to emigration, international flight, modern telecommunications and the Internet, progeny, cultures and values are altered more widely and rapidly.

Fast-forward this dynamic to the next few decades and centuries. Possible influences include universal, interstellar, interplanetary and intergalactic travel, faster flight, telecoms, video conferencing and other - including unknown - future inventions that will sprout. The humankind family tree branches would consist of different nationalities, races, and possibly even other world species. New cultures and values would evolve: In fact new 'humankind species' would possibly evolve too.

There is a caution though. Who says the above-mentioned evolution would be friendly? Who says a state of peacefulness would exist? I predict it won't. Unless! I'm not stating this as a doom's day prophecy. Instead I base my prediction on common sense.

Our humankind species is in survival mode. Our lives consist merely of surviving. We deploy our creativity almost exclusively for survival. Our maturity in the main has not developed beyond mere survival.

As a species, if we're able to shift our maturity, even if just a little, we'll evolve beyond survival mode. Then we'll have a chance to shift our current state towards peacefulness. We will then use our creativity to create peacefulness, as opposed to using our creativity for: destruction, survival and wanting to disprove our non-serving self-esteem beliefs.

By recognising the role our lack of self-esteem plays in our lives, instead of denying it, having the openness and courage to face up to it is the first step to freeing ourselves from the devastation we allow it to create in our lives. And as a result, the devastation we create in humankind.

Behaviour like wanting status or living according to a certain image or wanting to prove something, has major impact on ourselves, others and the environment. We're not being ourselves. Not being ourselves - even if we feel it's only a little, is still major. Because that means we gave up on ourselves. Take this in context of a parent giving up on their child for whatever reason. Not pleasant at all.
