The Fastest Way To Lose Weight.

By Nigel Gittens

The question is being asked by many Americans today "What is the fastest way to lose weight?". As many as 67% of all Americans are overweight and there is virtually an obesity epidemic in the country certainly since the 1980s. The number of children of pre-teen age that are overweight has almost tripled over the last decade and we are beginning to see evidence of chronic disease such as high blood pressure and diabetes. It is now a national problem which requires clear thought and steadfast resolve by the overweight individual to successfully treat with this burgeoning problem. The article is all about this.

Six million deaths are anticipated annually arising from obesity and these deaths are entirely preventable. Obesity is caused by the overconsumption of sugar, salt and fat. The overconsumption of sugar causes our blood sugar levels to spike and this leads to damage of our internal organs. These spikes should not only concern the diabetic person but also the normal person. Sugar and salt should only be consumed when it is part of natural foods such as fruits and vegetables and not from manufactured sources such as manufactured juices and foods.

Currently one-fifth of all men and one-third of women are engaged in dieting. There is an over-abundance of television diet advertisements within recent times. The success rates of the weight loss diets are doubtful at best, simply because the very foods that are causing the obesity in the first place are being offered. These failing diets are causing much anxiety and depression among participants who blame themselves for lack of discipline and self control.

Persons who are overweight wrestle with this for more than thirty years of their lives. Being overweight or obese may not be entirely the fault of the individual but can be attributed to three noticeable phenomena today. The first is that there is a preponderance of food advertisements that are quite attractive and seek to compel persons to purchase if not immediately, sometime in the future. These advertisements sink into our psyche with the result that purchases are made on a continuous basis. Secondly there is a great addiction to sugar and salt which can be seen by the withdrawal symptoms when one deprives oneself of these. These withdrawal symptoms are mood swings and depression much like the traditional drug addict whenever sugar and salt are taken away.

There are no such addictive qualities when sugar and salt are consumed in their natural states as in fruits and vegetable. The third reason for this phenomenon of obesity is that 50% of meals are consumed in restaurants and fast food outlets and not at home. When foods are consumed outside, there is no control over the content and the same lack of control is seen when we purchase at supermarkets where processed foods are offered by and large.

The defeat of the national overweight problem lies in the recognition that manufactured sugar and salt must be exchanged for natural sugar and salt. This is the fastest way to lose weight and can be done by adopting a diet mainly of natural foods namely fruits and vegetables as well as a more active lifestyle based on regular exercise.
