Judo, boxing, wrestling and thai are all similar sports to Mixed Martial Arts otherwise known as MMA. MMA is a fusion of all these different types of fighting and combat sports however MMA is a full contact sport and fighters use a fusion of all these styles to beat their opponent.

UFC or the Ultimate Fighting Championships is the worlds largest Mixed Martial Arts promotional company. They began back in 1993 and took MMA to a new level. Although the sport became popular in the 1990's records of the sport can be traced back to the ancient Olympics time.

MMA acclaimed world wide popularity in December 2006 when one of the biggest Mixed Martial Arts fights happened between the former champion Tito Ortiz and UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. Due to the massive media coverage the sport was in the public eye and gained millions of new followers and soon to be enthusiasts.

Rules for the MMA sport were very limited when the sport first began. The were almost none to protect the fighters health however this has all changed in later years. Now, fighters have to wear open fingered gloves to protect their knuckles against cuts and damage and fight plans were set out for three 5 minute rounds instead of unlimited.

As with any type of sport or combat sport there is a style of Mixed Martial Arts clothing or mma gearas it is also known. The male fighters are required to wear shorts and groin protectors underneath their trunks to protect them from and low heavy blows. Female fighters normally wear shorts and sports bras or tight fitting tops. It is also required and important that both males and females wear mouth shields.
