Flower Girl Dresses - Color Takes Center Stage

By John Jones

Preparing for your wedding is often an exhilarating task. You must decide on what type of flowers to use, wedding colors for the bridesmaids and ushers, and refreshments for the reception. You want everything to be perfect for that special day. But one detail that often gets put on the back burner is selecting a flower girl dress. Flower girl dresses are precious, frilly dresses worn by a little girl (usually between 3 and 8 years old) as she scatters flower petals down the aisle.

The flower girl is usually of some relation to the bride or groom, either a little sister, cousin, or niece. She gets all dressed up - like the grown-ups - and participates in the introduction to the bride using a basket full of flower petals. The key to finding a lovely long evening dress is to consider the flower girl's size and height, hair color, and also the actual wedding colors.

Reds are always popular and deep red such as claret is especially beautiful. This can accent so many beautiful wedding themes from black-and-white to pink or burgundy (depending on the shade, of course).Lavenders, pinks, blues and greens have always been favorites and continue. They can coordinate with purples and other shades of pink so beautifully!

Try to think a bit "outside the box" when planning your wedding - a splash of complimentary color can be a GREAT accent and make it young and fresh. Consider lavender or purple for green themes, and yellow with lavender themes, or pink with deep red themes! Again - be sure that the accent color is reflected in your flowers.

6. Don't Forget the Accessories The bride will need to decide what accessories she wants her girl(s) to have. What will she wear in her hair - ribbons, bows, flowers, a tiara? Will she wear earrings - pierced or clips? What color should the shoes be?7. Favorite Colors The most popular color for dresses is white. Secondly are the pastel colors. For Christmas weddings, girls may be seen wearing red. At evening weddings, they may wear darker colors.
