You can blow the whistle on your company if you know they're avoiding paying taxes

By Jenniroze Truman

One of the largest issues that the US administration face is that of IRS fraud within the hostile work environment California. It's so much of a problem that the government themselves can't police it on their lonesome. Instead they set up the whistleblower Protection Act so that anyone that reported an act of fraud in the workplace against the govt would have protection.

When this doesn't happen and somebody finds themselves out of work, then it's possible to call on the services of a team of wrongful termination lawyers who are expert at handling whistleblower termination cases.

The taxation gap

In 2006 congress let slip a document titled 'The Taxation Gap'. In it, they estimated that there is an ever-widening chasm between what ordinary every day USA citizens owe in taxes, against what they are basically paying. At present that figure sits at a staggering $300 bln. Obviously the government has an issue and they're looking to the IRS to try to considerably cross that gap.

Here is where the IRS whistleblower programme comes in. If anyone suspects that their company has been dodging paying their taxes, then the govt. will offer financial incentives in a share of the spoils if a case is successful. For a case to get heard, a company has to have deceived the govt out of over $2 million. As a successful whistleblower is usually rewarded about 10-15 % of the financial value , then 2 to 3 hundred thousand bucks might be winging it's way to them. Though the finance rewards are indeed very good, cases often only come to completion and are successful when the representing lawyer can persuade the governing body departments (in this situation the IRS) to intermediate.

Wrongful termination

Under the guise of the whistleblower protection act (WPA) an employer cannot retaliate in any fashion. That includes termination, suspension, demotion and any form of intimidation. If this occurs then an experienced team of wrongful termination lawyers may want to be consulted as to your rights. The govt. and the law come down heavily on any employer who is seen to have obvious contempt for whistleblower protection and as a result can and should be prosecuted.
