I just get a little egg timer, problem solved. I had a dehydrator before this and I didn't like it at all, but this is great!
The dial allows you to simply select the type of food you want to dehydrate. Thus you simply plug in the dehydrator and select the food. I've dehydrated tons of different stuff on it including carrots, corn, apples, bananas (the only thing my kids haven't liked), bell peppers, hot peppers, cucumbers, onions and lots of jerky. I've even tried dehydrating some leftover soups and stews which worked remarkably well. I gave a friend some jerky and her and her husband enjoyed it so much that they purchased this Nesco also and started making their own jerky. I am so pleased with this dehydrator. I saved more than that making my first 1 pound of jerky! As others have said, clean-up is a piece of cake especially with the clean-a-screens - I recommend going ahead and getting enough of these to cover each tray.
It is easy to use and easy to clean. I am using to make dog treats as most of the dog products come from China and are NOT safe.
I have not been disappointed. I bought some extra screens for it as well as fruit leather trays and other things - all of which have been great. I filled all 5 trays this way. I just ordered some of Nesco's hot and spicy seasoning to try out.
This machine works very well - thus far I have dried fruits, veggies, and herbs. If I place the food in at night before bed it is done by midmorning (unless the item is thick obviously). However, my top tray had the last of the meat on it, so they were smaller pieces too. For those wondering, 4 pounds of steak cut into strips takes 3 trays plus part of the 4th.
I am quite pleased! First, there is nothing physically wrong with this dehydrator. The base is just a plastic drip pan that cleans up in seconds. We received this as a gift but have already used it many times. My wife and I limit their exposure when we can. An example is a particular fruit snack that did not contain this dye.
The dehydrator is easy to use and clean. Considering the price of 'sun-dried' tomatoes, I expect this to pay back before the growing season ends.
Now my kids, who are on special diets, can share jerky with me that I make. I absolutely love this dehydrator!
