The Paper Cup, A Good Thing Or A Waste?

By Salmsed Pucs

For days I've been thinking of topics to scribble about, subjects that are semi related to my interests. A buddy gave me the assignment to write about cups. Cups? ! I said? What's fun about cups? Well it seems they're closely related to a large amount of topics that I like and I never made the link.

The environment! Ever wondered where all those cups came from. Well to make a long story managable, the paper ones are made from trees. While they may be mostly produced from recycled paper the reality is that they were trees long ago. As everyone knows trees play a vital part in the planet's ecological system. I would not always say that drinking from a paper cup is endangering our extremely existence. But when you give it some thought you have got to agree that if everybody stopped drinking from them it would help a good deal!

What are the choices? Plastic. But plastic is a horrible waste bringer too. It takes years for a plastic cup to melt naturally in nature and the bio degradable sort is so dear to make that sizeable firms will never use them in their daily life. It all comes down to a cost profit analyses and the bio cup draws the short straw there.

But plastic cups are a very good alternative! The answer is to use ones that you can reuse. So that leaves out the Starbucks ones but when you are at home they're very well to use. Or maybe at work. Of you get your coffee from a coffee machine with those plastic bekers bedrukken, it helps to have your own durable ceramic or plastic cup. You can wash it off at the end of each day and use it again the next.

Dave the planet, watch your cups!
