A friend of mine at work had this fan and let me borrow it and I used it so much she got me one as a gift! I can't tell you how often I needed this. If you decide to use batteries you will find that the fan will only work at maximum capacity for about 15 minutes before your batteries start to drain and there is no longer that strong power that was originally there. Batteries are expensive when you're burning up 4 every 30 minutes to simply keep your fan going at an acceptable rate. Otherwise, I would have given the fan 5 stars instead of 4 stars. I wash the sponge in peppermint soap to feel even cooler but it still has a stale sort of smell that I do not like.
You have to use another instrument to take it off and sometimes when you put it back on you have to do it a few times because the sides don't line up correctly. Fortunately, it has vents so you typically don't have to...you just squeeze the water through the vents when it refills and the instructions say to refill it about every hour.
I found the product to be rather bulky as well. Even though aesthetically stylish, I would feel self-conscious using this thing out in public as it is rather unusual. Thank you, Handy Cooler. For what it is, it is a very good little fan.

Anyways, the handy cooler came and I was amazed at how well it worked, it's quiet and it really cools the air. I recommend this fan if you want a good quality product and don't mind paying the extra money. This fan moves a good amount of air if placed around 4 inches from the hit. It is more of a desk fan for me, rather than one that I carry around although it was made for portable use. Save you money and buy a floor fan. At least that will circulate air. It cools, it's convenient, and very ergonomic. The only problem is the high price tag!
It's about the size of a small book. We put it in the baby's stroller or in her bike trailer. I can also pick it up and hold it close to my face when I need a rapid cool off. This product is brilliant! The only thing I could ask for is a longer USB cable. Summer has been on the cooler side so far but the hottest month is still to come so I expect to give the fan a real workout.
