Arvind like many engineers had received Group Discussion and Individual Interview calls for IIM- Ahemdabad, IIM- Bangalore, IIM- Calcutta, XLRI, and many other MBA institutions.

More than a decade later, I've developed a list of concerns to stimulate group discussions. I also have a list of crucial phrases you may use to steer the conversation back on track, take care of another person who's dominating the meeting and transition from one topic to another.

Many folks get eliminated In this round resulting from lack of appropriate knowledge and preparation. Organizations conduct group discussions to test the candidate's willingness to be a part of the team, his behavior, his Ability in selection making, his listening capacity, his physique language, and if or not he's open to accepting others' views.

Maintain eye contact with each member of the group and consider to look for attention from everyone by making valid points about the topic. Do not stare at any one particular person for more than three or 4 seconds. Usually do not criticize or laugh at the viewpoint of another participant irrespective of how silly it might sound. MBA's are expected to be dignified and specialized in their behavior. Often speak positively and supportively of other participants

In a GD everyone is seated. Do not play with pen, paper or your chair, just concentrate. preserve your thoughts free of all unnecessary stuffs. Don't get judgmental. You do your part and leave the rest. Constantly take permission before making or adding a point. E.g.: "Please allow me make a point" or "I possess a point to make".

Usually use easy English while participating in GD. Fillers are a complete no-no during a formal group discussion. Do not use casual language while speaking in a discussion. They are many of the knowledge you have to build to face a group discussion with confidence.
