Earth friendly Construction strategies for small companies

By James Fisher

Construction in general is a messy job and practice. Once a project is completed there is always a massive amount of debris left unused and discarded and in need of proper disposal. Construction projects also disrupt local ecosystems. The use of heavy machinery devastates vegetation populations, displacing all of the wildlife, including birds and insects that may have resided in the area.

The color of the rock in an area is important because if the color is not natural to the location it can be very disturbing and disruptive to the local wildlife, and therefore affect the ecosystem. For example an insect population may prefer rocks of a certain color to live around because it provides camouflage, just as local animals may choose certain rocks around which to look for food.

A soil's composition contributes to the quality of the plant life it supports, and therefore the wildlife that depends on those plants. Soil differs so greatly from one location to another and these variations are very important. The differences include (but are not limited to) the amount of dead and decaying material found, or the soil's organic content, as well as the size and variation of rock material, and therefore it's mineral content, and also the amount of water.

Due to the specific nature of each of these tasks there are many companies that have formed in order to provide the above services. There are companies that exist solely to gather and dispose of unused materials from construction sites. Many companies in existence will provide re-vegetation needs as well as address soil stabilization concerns. There are other companies still that simply provide rock staining services. Most of these companies are not focused entirely on the construction clean up area but also provide services for general landscaping and waterscaping needs as well.

One way this can be accomplished is through re-vegetation. Re-vegetation is the process of planting native vegetation species in and around the construction area. Planting native plants is not just for aesthetic purposes, but is also important to local wildlife.
