Certain things to Ask yourself before receiving a vasectomy operation

By Ronald Fisher

The vasectomy itself is a procedure that can take place in your doctor's office. The procedure usually takes up to just 20 to 30 minutes for the vasectomy. There will be numbness from the anesthetic for several hours after the vasectomy is done. You should rest lying on your back for the rest of the day, with ice packs on your scrotum to help with any pain that may come after the numbness wears off.

Many men believe that birth control is something a woman should worry about since she is the one that would get pregnant. But an unwanted pregnancy can change the life of a man as well as a woman.

You can have sex again after about a week after getting a vasectomy, but it is best to use protection until you get a zero sperm count. Usually your doctor will have you come in about two months after the vasectomy was done, though there are also home tests you can buy to check your sperm count. Once you get that zero sperm count, you can be secure in having sex without using any other kind of birth control.

The way a vasectomy is done is that you will be given a local anesthetic in the area the doctor will be working at. Two small opening will be made in the scrotum. From there your doctor will be able to cut the two vas deferens tubes. The ends of the tubes will be sealed by being sewed up, which will stop the flow of sperm.

Some men experience issues with a vasectomy, but it is very rare. This makes a vasectomy a great option of permanent birth control for men who do not wish to have children.
