Buy Swiss Army Knives

There is not a doubt that your knife is your most basic necessity when going to camp. It has been a long time that man started using this essential tool. Currently, knives are made of iron or steel. Before they were only made of flint, then developed into copper, then bronze. And in the fine-grained sediment of a dry riverbed, in the Afar Region of Ethiopia, left long ago by an ancient people, lay the oldest relic of a knife ever discovered - dated to be 2.6 million years old. Styled from volcanic rocks, knives have developed into the tool it is today. Knives were used for hunting, building shelters, providing and preparing food, and in general, survival. Knapping was a method they used in the old times in making sharp bladed devices. It is the shaping of the tool through the process of lithic reduction. Several knives from the past were made out of obsidian stone.

For attacking, hunting and eating were among the knife's uses. When knives started being used as eating utensils, those in the 15th century who were not allowed to carry firearms, carried their knives in a scabbard on the belt. A set of knives were made composed of a large hunting knife and two small paring knives. These were all stored in the same case. The use of knives as a hunting tool, diminished as they progressed more as an eating device besides the spoon and fork.

Almost 10,000 years have gone by, that knives were formed out of wood, bone, stone, flint or shell. During this time, copper was discovered and became the main material to make knives. In at least 50 centuries ago, copper was replaced with steel. Nowadays, due to technology advancement, there are ceramic knives, and those made from carbon fiber or titanium.

Knives have become a collector's item. It has become a huge business for the unusual designs. And there are many specialized categories to choose from - hunting, military, camping, multi-purpose, sports, hunting and fishing or pocketknives. The most exceptional finds are usually seen in auction houses.

Knives will function for long if kept clean and maintained regularly. Store them in separate sheaths to prevent rusting, and intermittently drop some oil to keep the strokes silky smooth. Old guys would say, "Walks and Talks well". It means that you can smoothly pull your knife out without that feeling of getting stuck. Never sharpen blades on a power driven grinding wheel, exercise great care when handling and keep away from children, don't carry it in the pocket with coins as these will scratch and damage the handle and bolsters.

A friend of mine collects knives. He has all sorts of knives you can think of, but the most remarkable piece is his designed custom-made knife patterned with inlaid turquoise and coral. He still uses his knives and he never forgets to bring one when he goes camping. However not all, the knife with the turquoise and coral pattern is "for your eyes only"!
