Uncovering The Myths About Fascias

By Peter Quevedo

Fascias and soffits are named as integral parts of the guttering system of a certain house. The guttering of a building can be seen on the fascia boards. Under the fascia, there is also finishing materials which are placed on it known as the soffits. The fascias and soffits should somehow be waterproof so they will not be easily rotten by the dampness and moisture. Those things should somehow offer you an ease or convenience when maintained and they should be made of woods with aluminum or vinyl finishes.

When you install fascias plus the extension of soffits, you will certainly realize you are not doing a hard job. But, you should never have fear of heights when you do so. Take note that when you change them, you do the changing one at a time. Those materials may somehow deteriorate in various speeds. When you install the fascias, make sure that you have all materials completely.

After doing the sheathing of roof, be certain to install the fascia only. As the ends of the rafters can never be done perfectly calibrated, there is really a need of using chalk line to be run around the walls of the house to highlight roof perimeter. Somehow, you should also find a way that the chalk line would really mark the line below the rafter tails. Certainly wavy fascias could be avoided when you mark a line on it as it would certainly act as guide to the attachment of the fascia.

There are also sub-fascias out there which could provide you straighter line if you still experiencing problems. Those sub-fascias are measured 1"x4" or 1"x6" so get which type you want. Somehow, you can count on those boards already because they come treated and sealed. You really have to choose the type of the roof because it would certainly mark a difference. The fascia can certainly be attached into the rafters that is found on a hipped roof. However, it would certainly add markings on the gabled roof just to ensure having good fit.

Finally, it is also important that you firmly nail the fascia to the roof joist ensuring that the joist is also nailed firmly on the rafter having a good alignment. If you really want stability and strength to your output, nail the fascia twice. When you place the soffit to its exact location, the next thing that you have to do is simply attach the fascia to the joist through the use of one or two nails.

When choosing fascia, you should somehow take note of the roofing materials that you have used in your house. It is also needed that you determine the depth of your fascia based on the roofing material that the house really has.
