A Vision Quest In Nature Is Powerful

By Heather Anderson

This encounter of being everything all at the same time lasted for about 3 weeks. Then I slowly returned to what I call 'ordinary reality' after my vision quest. I remembered talking to a friend about this at the time. He stated 'Wow, that seems amazing!' but I remembered just telling him how regular and natural it felt. Like this is the regular way we're meant to experience the world.

Since that experience I've been on a 15 year quest. A quest to know 'what happened'. A quest to find ways of accessing that state of 'non-ordinary reality' at will. This quest has taken me to live with magic males within the tropical jungles of Indonesia. To Native American Indians in the USA. And Aboriginal old people in Australia.

But mostly this quest has taken me into nature. Into aged natural forests. On top of snow-capped mountain peaks. Beside rugged wind-swept coasts. Inside the craters of volcanoes. Beside raging waterfalls. For in my experience the simplest way of accessing this state happens alone by immersing your self in the wonder and mystery of nature. Finding and experiencing your true nature in nature.

After accessing this state countless times I now understand how to access it at will. Whilst driving my car. Whilst walking in supermarkets. Whilst talking with buddies. Like nature, this state is always there awaiting you to return. We are able to all tap into the world beyond the one we know.

The simplest way I've found would be to totally let go of stress in both the body and mind. Totally let go of ideas as they arrive and enter into a state of innocence and no-mind. Then to consciously slow everything down - to see the planet like watching a film in slow-motion. Being in every moment. Feeling each moment. Turning up each of one's 5x senses in each moment. Then to place your awareness on and go with the subtle pull of the existence force that constantly directs you.

In my encounters those are the conditions that allow the world beyond what we know to naturally come up... relaxed, no-mind, heightened senses in each second and allowing the pull of your heart to guide you. In psychology terms I guess this drops me into the 'theta' and 'delta' brain wave patterns whereupon the dream state occurs. Perhaps that is why Aboriginals call stepping in to the spirit realm is the same as 'dreaming' and 'the dreamtime'.

Imagination, the language of the soul all of a sudden awakens. The language beyond the words we frequently use. The signs and symbols from nature talk loudly. The subtle voice within becomes loud. The force past speaks straight whilst inside this state. Tapping straight into the wonder and mystery of nature. No sense of separation. Connection is all there is.

Given time and correct circumstances we can all tap into this state. It's always there just waiting for us to tap into. Like turning on the tap to reveal the h2o within. The water is usually there. Similarly with the spirit inside, the wisdom that abounds. The synchronicities all over the place. Always existing. Just waiting to tap into.
