There are maze like structures with tall pinnacles and wide coral shelves on pinnacles like the Palancar Horseshoe and Punta Sur. Here divers can swim through tunnels and between towering coral, go into caves. For divers not accustomed to drift diving coral gardens are exciting beginning experiences. These lack the lushness found further away from shore, but they do have an abundant fish life that flourishes.
