By Mamie Conrad

There are many benefits in wilderness survival training. Through this, anyone may be able to survive in the wild. Acquiring knowledge in water purification, shelter building, edible wild plants and friction fires are very crucial. To ensure the success of the training and help the participants survive in a real-life situation, there are ten items that must be acquainted to the participants. With the right amount of tools and supplies, anyone may make it through a very challenging outdoor experience.

Apparently, knives are very important when you are in the wild. The three inches of non-folding knives may be used in different ways. Among them are building frictions and creating fires, building shelters as well as harvesting the wild edibles. This may also be used when protecting yourself from any wild animals or hunting.

Water is undoubtedly a very important part of one's life. Without proper hydration, the body may give in to the toll and incur damages. To avoid getting dehydrated and weak, it is imperative to find a source of drinking water. Since the water in the wild may or may not be safe for drinking, water purification is indispensable. Purifying the water may be time-consuming but failure to do so may be very fatal as well.

Do not forget the lighting materials, too. Fire is very vital for surviving. This is used to cook, warm the shelter, protect you from wild animals and purify water. The fire may be conjured in many different ways depending on the available resources. The primitive way uses friction. An easier and more advanced way is through the use of matches or lighters. Hence, it is best to bring along either of the two in the wilderness.

There must be first-aid supplies as well. It cannot be helped that you incur injuries in the process. It may be a minor injury or something serious. Fogs may hamper your vision and affect your orientation. Not to mention the roots, thorns or twigs that may cause you to trip off and incur cuts and bruises. Before the infection makes matter worse, you must apply the first aid right away.

Small compass. Do not forget to bring a working compass along. Even with excellent navigational skills, the fogs or haze may make it more difficult to determine whether one is heading to the right direction or not. To eradicate the possibility of going the wrong direction, a small compass may be of help. It can show the right direction to take.

Light is very important, as well. Most especially when the night falls. It would be more difficult to work around at night if everything is pitch dark. With the light produced by the device, you can clearly and safely take the right path. This can also help show you the incoming dangers and hopefully avoid them.

Even the wool blanket can help you survive. Even while you create your own natural shelter, you may still suffer from freezing coldness. Unless you wear a wool blanket, you may shake uncontrollably. To prevent this and ensure a good sleep at night, the wool blanket is very helpful. Remember that you need a good night sleep to survive the wild for another day.

Finally, everyone must know how to properly use the tools through their wilderness survival training. Even with a good item, if you do not know how to use them properly then it would still be impossible to survive. Pay close attention to the types of tools and equipment you will be needing and observe the proper ways of using them.
