Moving About in Mauritius

By Neal Brantley

A holiday in Mauritius is excellent, whether you're on a romantic get-away or if you just need to relax and unwind. The length of the stay can be from a few days to a couple of weeks. When planning your trip to Mauritius don't forget to make arrangements for babysitting, plant watering and pet care. A few individuals use house-sitters or even house swapping, to be completely certain that their domestic situation will be tended to while they are away and they can absolutely enjoy their holiday.

Mauritius is an island and the only airport is in the town of Plaisance, which is close to the coast. So if you are not fond of car travel there are lots of gorgeous spots not too far away. The island however, is not that big so even if you travel to the opposite side your journey from the airport wont take that long. There aren't any trains, but taxi's are freely available and rather cheap. Buses are cheaper, but are not very comfortable to use when you are carrying lots off luggage and to get on you have several high steps to climb. Also they do not take you to all of the possible destinations, especially if you've selected an isolated hotel.

Car hire is an improved alternative if you are looking to drive around and see places. However, if you just wish to relax or are on honeymoon your want could be to just stay in the hotel enjoying the beach by day and the entertainment by night. In that case a car hire may be a little bit of a waste and you could just choose to get a taxi ride from the airport to the hotel. Another choice is to split your vacation and spend the 1st half relaxing and the second half travelling. If so the hotel will assist you in organising a vehicle hire solely for the second half your holiday.

When planning for your Mauritius holiday make sure you organise your transport well in advance. Try to get a car with GPS so you do not stress over a wrong turn. Aside from the airport, automobiles can simply be hired in the more touristy areas which are Grand Bay and Flic en Flac. It's helpful to know that driving is on the left in Mauritius, like in Britain and S. A. and there is a motorway that connects Grand Bay in the north to the airport in the south.

All Mauritians talk French and English and so you'll have no difficulty communicating while there. Taxi drivers are particularly talkative and can offer you a lot of "insider info" about the island. Mauritius actually is amongst the most beautiful island states in Southeast Asia, improved by impressive tropical nature but also by an engaging heritage and lovely crafts.

The fantastic weather all the year round and the contrast of the green lush vegetation to the soft white sands and azure sea make it a holiday spot well worth visiting and holiday makers increase each year. The Government has invested substantially in the animal life parks and this has permitted for a rise in fauna.

La Vanille Crocodiles Park, Black River Gorges Nationwide Park, IIe aux Aigrettes and Domaine du Chasseur are some examples of the more well-known and better kept parks in Mauritius. Aside from these you need to definitely take time to luxuriate in spectacular tourist attractions and spots such as : Port Louis, Grand Baie, Eureka House, Mahebourg, Grand Bassin, Cap Malheureux, La Vanille Domaine Les Pailles, Curepipe, Crocodile Park, Le Caudan Waterfront.

Whether you decide to fly to Mauritius and relax in your hotel, or get around by bus, car hire or taxi, you can be absolutely sure that your vacation will be one you will never forget!
