Missouri marriage records are just one the public records that the local people of Missouri can access. This was made possible after the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act. Whenever a couple gets married, a marriage certificate is automatically generated.

Just like any other marriage record, the Missouri marriage record contains the names of the bride and groom. One can find the details of the marriage of the couple such as the date and the place where the couple got married. The names of important people who attended the ceremony can also be found on the file such as the sponsors, witnesses and the couple's parents. If the bride or the groom has been married before, information about previous marriages are also indicated on the file.

Updating the family history tree is one of the common reasons for accessing the marriage records of Missouri. Transactions in the government such as property related and insurance processing would require a marriage certificate. The record is also used by others to check the status of their partners and make sure that they are not yet married.

Only records from July 1948 can be obtained from the office of the Vital Records Section. Files before that are managed at the office of the county clerk where the marriage took place. The retrieval of the marriage certificate in Missouri has a charge and the charge is not the same for all counties. When requesting for a marriage certificate, one is required to indicate the names of the couple as well as the date of marriage on the application form. By doing so, the search can be made faster and easier. The one who seeks the document is also required to provide their basic information for documentation purposes.

The office of the Vital Records Section of the apartment of Health is where all public documents of Missouri are being managed. This includes the marriage files of the state. Aside from going to the office, one can do the request over the phone or through mail order. If one chooses these remote options, then the payment and the form still has to be sent to the office. One may need to wait for a longer time to get the result of the request.

Instead of going to the office of the Vital Records Section to search marriage records, one can do the search using the Internet. This method is by far the fastest method compared to any other traditional way of retrieving the document. The busy people of Missouri use this method since it saves them time and effort as well as money in getting the file.
