When I Participated In A Color Run 5k, I Had A Truly Fantastic Time

By Kimberly A. Salzerell

Yesterday I participated in the color run 5k, which was absolutely one of the most exciting experiences of my life. Now, I have participated in a lot of 5k runs, but this was a completely different experience from any of those. First of all, the website where I registered was far more quirky and was actually funnier than any other event website I have ever seen, and when I got to the actual event, the staffers and volunteers were excited beyond reason.

Now I know that a lot of you might not know what a color run 5k is, so let me explain it to you. I arrived, got the registration packet, which included an awesome t-shirt, some sunglasses, and a few other things, including a packet that I will tell you about in a minute. I put my runner number on as well as my sunglasses, and I did some quick stretches as I waited for the starter pistol.

Once it sounded, I was off, running at a nice easy pace, because while I enjoy a bit of competition, I was there to have fun and get a bit of exercise. After only a few minutes of running, we found ourselves enveloped in a delightful cloud of color. Every few minutes along the way, the Color Bomb Squad would bombard the runners with the lively, brightly colored powder, to the utter delight of the runners.

This is what the color run is all about, and it really looked like everyone was having a complete blast. I ran the whole five kilometers, getting a fresh coating of colors every few minutes, and by the time I reached the finish line, I was completely covered in vibrant color from head to toe, and I felt like a living, breathing rainbow.

At the finish line was a celebration like none I have ever experienced, and all of us who ran were admiring the unique and interesting color patterns on each other's faces. I wished I could just stay in that moment forever, but sadly, it did finally come to an end, but I could keep the memory with me forever. I enjoyed myself so much that I could barely wait to participate in another one and when I heard about the color run San Diego was going to have, I decided I should go visit my sister and introduce her to the incredible experience of a color run.
