How to Handle The Mental Stress of A Car Accident

By John Cruise

Bam! Your life can change in an instant. You can go from thinking, what do I want to eat to oh God will I ever be able to walk again Being in a car accident can be overwhelming. Thus, having a structure, God forbid, if you are ever in an accident, in mind will keep you from losing your mental makeup. Your thoughts can cause you to feel the chaos of the situation, or they can allow you to see clearly during this time and help you move forward past it.

There are a few simple steps you can follow when involved in a car wreck that can save you from an impending mental breakdown of Stress Mountain. What I am going to tell is you is often overlooked, but its power to transform your situation from one of insurmountable fear to absolute serenity in an instant is phenomenal.

Use your imagination here.

Your car traps you in with a crushed driver side door. There is crushed glass everywhere. Someone ran a stop sign and plowed into your car, and now your mind begins to create negative thoughts. "I'm dying! " "My heart is beating so fast am I having a heart attack? " "My arm hurts, oh god it must be broken" "My insurance premiums are going to go through the roof ." "This wasn't my fault, but no one is going to help me! " those kinds of thoughts do nothing to help your situation. HERE is the first thing to do

TAKE A BREATH. focus on your breathing and everything else falls away. This allows you to bring your attention back to the present moment Take a deep breath and count to 4, Breathe out then count to six This will keep the fearful thoughts from clouding your judgement.

BE IN THE MOMENT. Being present in the moment might be scary after an accident, but without focusing on the negative thoughts you are at peace. Your thoughts are what control your actions. So you want to think clearly and not make irrational decisions out of fear. Ask yourself what you can do right now to silence the negative thoughts, and silence the negative thoughts. You might not know what to do right away but if you focus on the now, it will be ok.

ACCEPT THE SITUATION. Running way is the first thing that most people do when they are faced with a scary situation. We dream of being somewhere else. In this moment we are at total resistance. For inner peace to happen you have to understand you are at resistance. Accept your circumstances and what has happened. Miracles happen when we face our greatest fears. The ability to change our reality is opened up and we can see the moment for what it truly is.

BE GRATEFUL. If you can stand up, walk, talk, and only have a dent in your car, then that sounds like one lucky day. Some people don't walk away. So take some time to see that you could of had it worse, but the amazing thing is that you didn't! Changing your view of the situation can have a profound effect on your peace.

Life is a gift if we choose to see it that way. It's that simple.
