Dance Leg Warmers Are An Essential Item For Several Reasons

By Chloe Gib

The reason for the use of dance leg warmers is very simple. They are just perfect for ballet dancers who have to keep their lower limbs warm to avoid stress and strain especially during practice sessions. They go a long way in preventing injury.

In the seventies along with wrist and forehead bands, they became immensely popular. This was largely due to the aerobic fitness tapes made by Jane Fonda who wore these items and also Jamie Lee Curtis who used them in the movie Perfect. Soon women everywhere were copying the new trend.

Suddenly these items became a trendy fashion accessory even on the tennis court and some players still use them to this day. Recently, they have become chic once again. The cat walks are full of long-legged models displaying them over tights or skinny jeans for winter wear.

This item of clothing goes a long way in keeping you snug and warm in winter. Covering up any spaces between shoes, boots and legs you can keep any cold drafts well at bay. Small children, even tots love to wear them since they often spend a great deal of time outdoors at their places of care.

Available in a variety of colors and thicknesses, you should be able to find them at local clothing stores. If not, order over the internet or find some knitting patterns over the World Wide Web and get them knitted up for you. A loving grandma or mother will be only too happy to take up the knitting needles again. She may even knit up a fashionable mohair sweater or vintage sweater for you if you are lucky.

Such knitting patterns can be found over the internet with ease. Knitting being back in full swing, many a doting mother can be found knitting these for their offspring for those cold winter months. If not as an accessory over jeans, for their use in aerobics classes and of course, dancing.

Up to now, there are only women using them on the fashion scene, whereas in ballet dancing they are used by both the male and female. Somehow it is very difficult to imagine a male wearing such a decorative yet snug item of clothing. This goes to show how soft and feminine warmers worn over the legs look and feel.

Dance leg warmers have come into their own from their humble beginnings as practice clothing for ballet dancers to the huge success they enjoy today by all who enjoy comfortable fashion gear. It is indeed strange how clothing accessories go out of fashion and then return decades later, so hold onto your leg warmers (and not just for dancing!).
