It's easy to understand how a photobooth works. Your guest (or you!) sit on a bench or in front of a background. The camera snaps a few pictures of you. Maybe you're serious or maybe you're making silly faces or even trying to tell a story in four frames or less. Then the printer kicks into action, delivery your accomplishments on a beautiful color print.

The Proof Is In the Printer

Don't worry. There won't be a photochemical smell from your photobooth Nowadays, they are digital creations taking advantage of the latest advances in technology. Two types of printer dominate the photobooth market. Ink-jet printers you've probably heard of. Dye sublimation printers you may not have, since they are usually used in commercial printing applications.

It's hard to believe, but many companies use the same model ink-jet printer you can buy at a discount store inside their photo booths. Ink-jet printers are inexpensive. They can create vibrant photos. But, many models cannot generate a print that will last more than a year or two unless you take very special care.

Dye-Sub is a process of melting plastic onto photo paper. The prints look like what you'd expect and they last a lot longer. For the best quality, go with a dye-sublimation printer.

Backgrounds Make it Unique

Custom backgrounds fill up the white space around the photos on a photo strip. This background can include the bride and groom's names and the date of the wedding. The best photo booth companies can also match your theme and wedding colors. A great background can enhance your photo strips and make them unique.

Memories

The point of a photobooth is to capture memories from your wedding. Make sure your operator gives you a CD or DVD of all photos after the event. Most will print multiple prints of every picture so both the guest and the bride and groom receive one

Build a memory scrapbook at your wedding. It's easy Each guest sits in the booth and pastes one of their pictures onto a page in your memory book. They then add a personal note alongside the picture. Many photo booth operators offer this as an option, or you can do it yourself.

Props Make it Fun

Many photobooth companies will provide props like wigs, hats and fake mustaches for your wedding. While this may seem out of place at an elegant reception, props are a great ice breaker. They are especially useful in convincing people who hate having their picture taken to sit in the booth.

Photobooth Costs

You can pay anywhere from $800-1200 for a four-hour reception. Photobooths are not cheap. Your best bet is to book about a year out and shop several booths. Plan on an hour for every 50-75 guests.

Bringing a photo booth to your wedding will be a hit. It's hard to get people to dance at a wedding, but it's usually easy to ask them to sit in the photo booth for you.
