An envelope is an item used for packaging. Typically this is made using a flat, thin material. It is designed to carry a flat object, usually a letter or card. These units come in a range of dimensions and may be considered window or security types.

Window envelopes are designed to have a hole cut out in the front. This makes it possible to see the contents. Usually, the paper inside is situated in a position that shows the sending address. The window contains a film that is transparent or translucent and added to protect the envelop contents.

Security versions are different. They contain a pattern inside that makes the packaging less transparent. This means that the contents of the package are not easily viewable without it being opened. There are many patterns that may be used.
