Pool Safety Recommendations For Homes With Kids

By Jonnh C Montgomery

As a house-warming present to his grandchildren, my father bought us a pool alarm as soon as we moved into our new home not a few blocks from the house I grew up in. Considering that my 3-year-old twins, like most children their age (and energy!), were in trouble of falling into the pool unintentionally, he said that a pool safety alarm was a necessity for all of us.

I recalled reading someplace that drowning is a major reason for unintentional loss of life for children 1 to 4 years old. This convinced me that the safest pool alarm was one which would ensure that my kids were safe from accidental drowning.

The Pool Protector that my pops gifted us is an uncomplicated device. We set it up on the pool deck with no trouble whatsoever. After set up, it quickly went into the alarm-ready mode.

Being alarm-ready, the pool security alarm picks up entry into the pool by utilizing its electronic detector. Upon motion detection, a very loud pulsating alarm is triggered in the unit and also inside the house via a remote receiver.

The remote receiver of our pool alarm system is installed about 150 feet away, at home. In fact, the receiver may be mounted approximately two hundred feet from the main unit. It also comes with a 12 volt power supply.

Similar to many pool alarm systems, the pool alarm that we own remains constantly turned on however may be put into sleep mode. Should any individual unfamiliar with the system seek to put the device in sleep mode, though, the unit is going to sound an alarm.

Our device was put to the test when, unknown to any of us, our pet poodle made a decision to take a dip in the pool. Of course, our pet didn't need any rescuing, however her cute little stunt assured us that the alarm works perfectly.

The moment we learned that my sister and her family were relocating to their new home, my dad and I encouraged her to look into the safest pool alarm systems available also.
