What You Should Know About The Festival Of Unleavened Bread

By Koko Ishe

This night is a high Sabbath to the Lord God of Israel (Jesus) and if you're wondering it does not fall on the normal weekly Sabbath on the seventh day. This is because the Bible points out seven annual Sabbaths the children of Israel (and the world) are required to keep as Holy Days ("Holidays"). All of the Holy Days of God can be found and read about in the book of Leviticus chapter twenty-three. It is because of these annual Sabbaths that the world at large has a big misunderstanding about the death of Jesus.

Just to recap this week long festival, Jesus the Lamb of God is our Passover. He had to be killed on Passover day, which is the 14th day of the 1st month on God's calendar. The way of the Passover has changed since the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. There is no longer the necessity of getting a lamb, for Jesus is the Lamb. We simply need the unleavened bread and wine. The bread and wine represent Jesus' body.

On the 15th day of the same month is the first night of the festival of unleavened bread. It follows right behind the Passover. It is a Sabbath and Holy day. The Jews were insistent in removing Jesus from the cross into the grave because if they hadn't it would defile the land and curse it. The early Roman church mistook the first night of the unleavened bread (Sabbath) for the weekly Sabbath. From this mishap they concluded that Jesus died on Friday (assuming it was a day before a Sabbath). Here is born "Good Friday."

The Bible is clear that it is impossible to call Jesus our Lord and Savior if He died on Friday and rose early Sunday. It is because He would go back on His own Words of being in the grave 3 days and 3 nights. The banquet of unleavened bread last for 7 whole days and are filled with happiness and feasting before the God of Israel (Jesus). The first and last day of the banquet is a High Sabbath. They are Holy, Holy church gatherings are commanded, and we are suppose to eat unleavened bread each of the 7 days.

Doing all of this represents living without sin during these seven days God Almighty has given man to exist. Jesus has passed over our sins, and we are to live sin-free as much as we can. Some people ask or suggest is it necessary to go through the ritual of eating unleavened bread for seven days if all it represents is living without sin. The answer to that is yes! It is still all very vital to do because it was the God of Israel (Jesus) who brought the children of Israel out of Egypt. The feast of unleavened bread has become a statue and ordinance to do and keep forever (Exodus 12 v17).

Leaven symbolizes sin. Jesus warned His disciples to beware of the leavening of the Sadducees and Pharisees. In that day their doctrine was loaded with inconsistencies and falsehoods (Matthew 16 verse 11-12). Today we should proceed with church doctrines with caution because there is still leaven being spread from different Christian church organizations today.

Peter rebukes us telling us to be aware of false prophets teaching about Jesus. They use His name, but bring forth a different doctrine. We must stay sober to keep our mind on Jesus Christ and His doctrine, which is sound doctrine you can read right out of the Bible. During this Holy Week we must keep in mind that Jesus is our Passover as stated in 1st Corinthians chapter 5 verses 7. We must purge out the old sin and become a new person, unleavened, without sin. Then we must do as Paul teaches in keeping the festival of unleavened bread with all sincerity and all truth. God bless...
